I only compare by checking the exact data usage I bridge the connection from my PC so it tells me exactly how much bandwidth it's using I find that the estimated time is never correct though.
I can see it's downloading at a certain speed and do the maths to work out my own time which is often twice as fast as the estimated time and turns out to be a more accurate reading.
